Intergenerational collaboration in Human Services
Dr. Roxanne Green
The Edmonds Community Farm & Lynnwood Senior Center collaboration is an intergenerational, community-based learning partnership that brings students, seniors, and local resources together through shared experiences rooted in food, culture, and care. Through this collaboration, students engage in hands-on service-learning at the farm while building meaningful connections with older adults, supporting dignity, wellness, and community belonging. The experience integrates interpersonal communication, group facilitation, and cultural responsiveness, while highlighting the role of food and nature in emotional and mental well-being.
This collaboration reinforces what I believe deeply: learning cannot stay in the classroom. It must be lived, experienced, and practiced in relationship with others. My teaching philosophy emphasizes application, and through this work, students are not just gaining skills—they are developing presence, empathy, and cultural humility through authentic connection.
