Second Chance

“Second chance scholarship is meant to discover leaders in unlikely places... Formerly incarcerated and homeless individuals come with so many self doubts, it's hard to rise and call yourself a leader. I hope that financial insecurities isn't a barrier to self discovery and finding the leader in themselves. I know with the support of the best class ever, they are well on their way to discovering their voice and finding their inner strengths and will shine brightly in their communities they serve. Second chance scholarship is a gift to the community that may overlook these unlikely leaders. There strength and ability to remove barriers and overcome obstacles is born from their lived experiences.”

Jason Cockburn is an alumni from the Signature Program (2020) and on the LSC Alumni Committee. “I started the second chance scholarship because I wanted anybody that struggles with addiction, homelessness, recidivism, or just feeling marginalized and not really a leader in themselves- I would like them to experience LSC and how it can influence their life.”

officer dan rocha memorial first responder scholarship fund

Officer Dan Rocha was an authentic leader: showed up as his true, honest self, led with heart, made real connections with people, sought to understand and was open to learning. His style of leadership and dedication to public service earned him deep respect and adoration from our community. He made people feel like they mattered. He made them feel like they were seen. At home, his leadership shows up in his two young sons who are active in their local community and leaders among their peers.

The Officer Dan Rocha Memorial First Responder Scholarship Fund honor’s his memory and will help first responders foster leadership skills to continue their impact in the community through Leadership Snohomish County’s civic leadership programs. It is awarded to first responders who demonstrate exemplary leadership and service. “This is an amazing way to honor Dan’s life and legacy,” said Chief Templeton.
