Deborah Knutson Women in Leadership Award

In commemoration of a remarkable leader and tireless advocate for our community, Leadership Snohomish County (LSC) proudly presents the Deborah Knutson Women in Leadership Award.

Named in honor of the late Deborah Knutson, a former head of the Snohomish County Economic Development Council, this award celebrates the extraordinary women in our community who exemplify Deborah's passion, leadership, and commitment to economic development.

Deborah's Legacy

Deborah Knutson was a leader who left an indelible mark on Snohomish County. For over a decade, she led the county's Economic Development Council with an unrivaled commitment to driving growth and development. Her strategic acumen and tireless advocacy played a pivotal role in retaining Boeing's 787 assembly in Everett—a testament to her enduring impact on our local economy.

Yet, Deborah's influence extended far beyond her professional accomplishments. She was known for her humility, compassion, and dedication to forming meaningful, personal relationships. Despite her stature, she was down-to-earth and accessible, embodying a leadership style that was as impactful as it was unassuming.

Through her actions and interactions, Deborah highlighted the potential of women in leadership roles, acting as a role model for many and challenging the status quo in Snohomish County and beyond. She epitomized the type of leader LSC aims to nurture: community-oriented, impactful, and inspiring.

Amy King, Pallet

Amy and Pallet have built partnerships with local governments and nonprofits to fill a need within our county for job training, life training and personal support with compassion.

Amy is the founder of Pallet, a public benefit organization that supports Snohomish County’s nontraditional workforce. More than half of Pallet's team have experienced homelessness, substance use disorder, or the criminal justice system, and have found stability through meaningful employment.

The staff is given opportunities to grow within the organization and are seen for the leaders they are. They strive to build people up by providing meaningful, living wage employment in a purpose-driven environment.

Amy, embedded in our County, gives the members within our community a second chance when most others will not. She gives people a sense of purpose and the ability to believe in themselves as leaders. She is quite literally changing and saving lives.

To quote this year’s winner, “We want the world to see that people’s futures are defined by their potential, not their past history.”
